Ngangkirna Kardlatidli: Women With Fire
MAY 2024
Next month, over 100 Indigenous women will gather on Kaurna Country in a first-of-its-kind National Indigenous Women's Fire Workshop. Hosted by our Kaurna Fire Team and Kaurna Elders, Ngangkirna Kardlatidli: Women With Fire emphasises the key role of Indigenous women in land management.
"We're excited to bring together Indigenous women from across the nation to share our experiences and knowledge and to empower each other in our important roles in Cultural Fire," says Kaurna Cultural Fire Practitioner and Firesticks Community Coordinator Quahli Newchurch, "...from being caretakers of women’s business, medicines and native plants; to being teachers and role models who inspire the next generation to care for Country."
The three-day event is set to be a healing gathering for women and for Country. "This is the first-ever conference of its kind in this space," says Rachel Steffensen, Firesticks People and Partnerships Manager. "We need more opportunities for women to come together and learn about Cultural Fire and their responsibilities to Country."
